What is a clinical Social Worker?

Clinical Social Workers are trained in biopsychosocial and psychotherapy theories and models. We view individuals in their context using an anti-oppressive, strengths-based perspective. Everything from genetics, family, community and social policies can impact an individual’s functioning, and these are integral to our assessments and treatment.

Our therapists hold Master’s degrees, and are registered with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

Turning Point offers excellence, integrity, and professionalism in counselling and therapeutic services.

Social Workers are inclusive

Our services are inclusive, and available to everyone living or working in South Georgian Bay and Grey County, regardless of age, ability, cultural or religious background, race, sexual orientation or gender identity.

FAQ

How can I access my therapy session?

We strive to be accessible, so sessions can be offered by telephone, secure video, or in-person.

How many sessions are needed?

For some people, a single session is all that is required, while others may attend sessions for a lengthier period of time, especially when processing complex mental health issues. The length of time is determined collaboratively by both client and therapist.

Confidentiality

We respect the privacy of all clients and adhere to the professional and ethical standards set out by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Personal information that has been provided to Turning Point Counselling will be secured with the utmost of confidence and all records will be stored in compliance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act, Ontario (PHIPA).

How much do sessions cost?

Fees are determined by the therapist, and range from $120 to $150 per 50-60 minute session

Do I need a referral from my Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner?

Clients can self-refer to our Practice; however we do receive a significant number of referrals from primary health care practitioners, and other health and wellness service providers.

Insurance coverage and direct billing

Before your first appointment, you may want to check with your insurance company about the terms and limits for your extended health benefits. More specifically, you should ensure that Registered Social Workers are covered under your plan. We will provide official receipts for you to submit to your insurance company following each session. You are also able to use your receipt for your personal medical deduction on your income tax. Some of our therapists are registered with various insurance companies and are able to do direct billing. Please let us know if you require direct billing to proceed.
