Turning

Point

Change can happen. Let us help.

Turning Point Counselling, located in downtown Collingwood, is a collective of clinical social workers driven to provide quality client-centered care.

We are the only counselling practice in Southern Georgian Bay that is solely social work driven. Social workers stand out for being included in most extended health benefit plans.

Social Workers are unique: We understand how social stressors impact your mental health.

At Turning Point, we value the importance of relationship building and honouring our client’s needs. We are brought together by a shared vision and passion for providing excellent therapeutic care to our clients. Our group of therapists is distinguished for their education and their diverse range of skills and experience. As social workers, we are devoted to our core values: dignity and worth of all people, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence.

FAQ

Cost

Our therapists work on a fee for service basis, and are not covered through OHIP. Fees will be established with your therapist prior to the first session; payment is to be submitted at the conclusion of each session. A detailed receipt will be provided for you to submit to your insurance company, or to use as an income tax deduction. Each therapist at Turning Point Counselling Collingwood determines his/her own fee. This ranges from $120 to $150 per 50-60 minute session. Social workers in Ontario are not required to collect HST on their clinical work, so there are no additional taxes charged. Most of our therapists do direct billing with health benefit providers such Green Shield and Medivie Blue Cross.

COVID and Vaccinations

All of our therapists are fully vaccinated. Our rooms are consistently and frequently sanitized, and we have face masks and hand sanitizer located conveniently on site for clients as they enter the building. Currently, our washrooms are temporarily closed. To ensure the safety of clients and therapists we ask that clients self assess for COVID-19 related symptoms, as well as cold and flu symptoms, prior to their scheduled appointment.  For ease of accessibility we offer both in-person and virtual sessions.

Payment Methods

We accept most major credit cards, e-transfer, and cash. Many of our clients are able to have their counselling covered by their health insurance plan. A receipt, which includes your therapist’s registration number and designation, will be issued within 24 hours of receiving your payment,

How long will therapy take?

The number of sessions will depend on the client, their level of commitment to therapy, and their counselling or therapeutic needs and goals.  This could be a single, solution-focused session, or it might be many sessions, over a longer period of time. Our therapists use a brief therapy framework and average 6-8 sessions for optimal outcomes; however issues relating to trauma, self-esteem, and bereavement can take longer to work through. The research on couples therapy suggests about 12 sessions to support enduring relationship change.  Client’s have the autonomy to terminate therapy at any time.

Referral Process

Requests for counselling and therapy sessions can be self-referred through our Reach Us page. A referral from a medical doctor or psychologist is not required.  We will respond to your request within one business day, and will work hard to connect you with a therapist that aligns with your counselling needs.

Privacy and Confidentiality

We take your privacy seriously. We adhere to the professional and ethical standards set out by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Personal, and personal health, information that has been provided to Turning Point Counselling will be secured with the utmost of confidence and all records will be stored in compliance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act, Ontario (PHIPA).
